Everyday support, arranged with care
Sayang Home was built around a simple belief — that older relatives deserve to feel settled, respected, and at ease in their own homes.
Back to HomeHow Sayang Home came about
Sayang Home grew out of a personal experience. Our founder, Lim Mei Shan, spent two years coordinating household support for her own grandmother in George Town while working full-time. She quickly discovered how hard it was to find someone who understood the rhythms of an older person's daily life — the timing of meals, the preference for familiar routines, the importance of not feeling like a burden to the family.
In 2019, she began helping a handful of Penang families in similar situations. Word spread quietly through the neighbourhood, and by 2022 Sayang Home had grown into a small, focused team with a clear purpose: to make ordinary home life feel manageable and calm for older relatives and the families around them.
We are based in Lebuh Acheh, at the heart of George Town's heritage district. That rootedness matters to us. We know the local context — the language, the food, the community — and we bring that familiarity to every family we work with.
Our Mission
To make everyday household life more comfortable for older relatives in Penang by coordinating practical, personalised support for the families who care about them.
What We Stand For
Dignity, familiarity, and honest communication. We never push families toward more than they need, and we always keep the older person's comfort at the centre of every arrangement.
How We Work
Slowly and steadily. We take time to understand each family's situation before suggesting anything. Once we begin, we check in regularly and adjust the arrangement as things change.
The People Behind Sayang Home
A small, consistent team who have all worked directly with Penang families.
Lim Mei Shan
Founder & Coordination Lead
Mei Shan oversees all family coordination arrangements and is the first point of contact for new families. She has spent six years organising home support in the Penang context.
Rania Abd Rahman
Caregiver Guidance Facilitator
Rania leads the caregiver guidance sessions. She has a background in community education and has worked with multi-generational families across the George Town area.
Tan Kah Wei
Household & Meal Coordinator
Kah Wei manages the daily living support and meal planning coordination. He works closely with families to build task lists and weekly routines that actually fit how the household runs.
How We Keep Standards High
These are the everyday commitments that shape how we operate with every family.
Screened & Trusted Partners
Every household helper and service provider we coordinate has been personally vetted. We only work with individuals we would trust in our own family homes.
Discretion as Standard
Family information and home details are held securely and never shared beyond those directly involved in the arrangement.
Regular Check-Ins
We stay in contact throughout the arrangement — not just at the start. Families receive routine updates and can raise questions at any point.
Written Plans, No Guesswork
Each arrangement begins with a written task list or session outline so everyone — family, helper, and coordinator — is working from the same page.
Open Feedback Welcome
If something is not working as expected, we want to know. Feedback from families shapes how we improve each arrangement over time.
Older Person First
Every decision is assessed against one question: does this make daily life calmer and more comfortable for the older relative? If not, we reconsider.
Household support for older relatives in Penang
George Town is a place where extended family connections have always mattered. Many Penang families carry a quiet responsibility for an older relative — a parent, a grandparent, a beloved aunt — who has lived independently for years and would like to keep doing so. Sayang Home exists to support that independence in practical ways.
The kind of household help we coordinate is not dramatic or complex. It is the steady, week-in-week-out assistance that keeps a home running smoothly: a well-organised task list for the household helper, a weekly menu that suits an older person's tastes, a session where a family member learns how to set up a more comfortable sleeping and sitting arrangement. Small things that accumulate into a noticeably calmer household.
We work across languages and backgrounds. Our team is comfortable in English, Malay, and Mandarin, which means fewer misunderstandings and more natural conversations with families in George Town, Tanjong Tokong, Batu Ferringhi, and across Penang Island.
Sayang Home does not replace family care. We sit alongside it, handling the coordination and the logistics so that family time can remain warm rather than stressful. Families who choose to work with us often tell us the biggest change they notice is simply that they feel less anxious when they leave at the end of a visit.
