Families who have worked with us

A selection of feedback shared by families in Penang over the past few months.

Ng Chee Hoong

Son, George Town

"My mother has lived alone in the same Lebuh Chulia flat for twenty years and she was not keen on changes. Mei Shan took the time to speak with her directly before anything was arranged, which made all the difference. Two months in and the household routine is noticeably calmer. I no longer spend every Sunday worrying about whether the laundry has piled up."

Siti Rahmah binti Hashim

Daughter, Tanjong Tokong

"I attended the caregiver sessions with my sister. Rania explained everything simply — how to arrange the kitchen so it is easier for my father to move around, how to have conversations when he becomes frustrated. We had tried to figure this out on our own for months. The printed guide is still on our fridge. Worth every ringgit."

Lim Huey Ling

Granddaughter, Batu Ferringhi

"My grandmother loves her food and is particular about it. Kah Wei visited us to understand her preferences before the first menu was planned — he even knew the difference between Hokkien mee she grew up eating and the restaurant version. Three months in, she actually looks forward to the weekly grocery delivery. That alone tells you something."

Kavitha a/p Murugesan

Daughter, Jelutong

"My parents were initially hesitant about having anyone come into their home. Sayang Home was patient — they took the time to explain what would happen during each visit and kept us informed throughout. About six weeks in, my father commented that 'the arrangement is quite good, lah.' That was high praise from him."

Ahmad Zulkifli bin Rosli

Son, Air Itam

"Good communication throughout. I work in KL and was worried about not being present — but Mei Shan sends a brief update each Friday which is genuinely useful. My mother's home is tidier and she seems more settled. There was one week where the helper had to be changed; it was handled without me needing to do anything, which is exactly what I needed."

Tan Mei Foong

Daughter, George Town

"We combined the meal planning and daily support. It felt like a lot to coordinate at first but the team handled the crossover smoothly. My mother now has a consistent weekly rhythm at home which she did not have before. She eats better and the house is cleaner. As a family we feel far less anxious when we are not there."

How arrangements came together

A closer look at how three families found a workable way forward with Sayang Home.

A retired teacher in Penang Road living alone

The Situation

Her daughter, based in Johor Bahru, was visiting every other month but finding that more and more was accumulating between visits — laundry, a cluttered kitchen, missed grocery runs.

What We Did

A daily living support arrangement was put in place — two helper visits per week coordinated by Sayang Home, with a clear task list and a Friday summary sent to the daughter.

After Three Months

The daughter reduced visits to once a month. When she arrives, she spends the time with her mother rather than catching up on chores. The teacher says her home feels "like my own home again."

"I did not realise how much mental energy I was spending on logistics until it stopped being my problem."

A working couple in Sungai Nibong caring for a parent

The Situation

Both partners were working full-time. The father had recently moved in with them and the couple felt unprepared — unsure how to set up the space, how to adapt routines, or how to talk about what he needed.

What We Did

Three caregiver guidance sessions were arranged — one for the couple together, one focussed on home setup, and one recorded for the wife's sister who lives abroad. Printed guides were provided after each session.

After Six Weeks

The couple described the shift as moving from "guessing" to "knowing." Small changes to the father's room and daily schedule led to noticeably fewer frictions at home. They subsequently added a meal coordination arrangement.

"Having someone explain things calmly, with no judgement, made it possible for us to actually ask the questions we were embarrassed to ask."
